Flavia Firmino, Regulatory Director of CMC strategy at Pfizer represented FIFARMA at the regional meeting: “United to build trust in quality medicines” of U.S. Pharmacopeia that was held on October 22nd in Sao Paulo.
This event was attended by different academic speakers, local and regional trade associations, LATAM regulators (ANVISA – Brazilian Pharmacopoeia, Peru, Uruguay and Mexico) and industry members.
The main topics in the first session were:
- Collaborate with regulators.
- Train industry.
- Advise practitioners.
- Facilitate the adoption of new technologies.
In the second session, the discussions turned around on:
- Access to biologics.
- Regulatory systems strengthening.
Each group pointed out the strengths and opportunities in the region and how USP could help support the efforts. In general, for all the groups the support required from USP would be educational training; clarification in the communication on updates and work together with regulators, academia and industry.
The event was very productive with good opportunities of the networking. Having all the players with different realities in the same meeting allowed for a fruitful discussion.
